Connections between the topic and the course material (readings and class discussions) A brief summation and a final statement that represents the key take-away / idea from your paper Your reflection paper should: Be typed, double-spaced, with no changes to the margins. There is an automatic -1 (out of 25) penalty for not double-spacing your paper. Include a title that connects in a meaningful way with your essay Be at least 350 words long. There is an automatic -5 (out of 25) penalty for not meeting the 350-word threshold. Include a word count at the end of the paper. There is an automatic -2 (out of 25) penalty for not including a word count. You do not need to include additional outside references beyond the course materials in your essay; if you do include sources from beyond the course materials, you should cite them in MLA or APA format (your choice, just be consistent) in a bibliography. The bibliography does not count towards the 350-word requirement. If you are citing from the course readings, whenever possible, please include the author and page number of the work in parentheses at the end of the sentence as in (Stoker, 35). You do not need a separate bibliography if you are only citing class materials, just the in-text citations will do. If you cite from a website, you do not need a page number, just the author will do; if there is no author, use the title of the site instead, as in (“She-Wolf”). If citing from a book or pdf and there is a page number, be sure to use the original page number whenever possible, NOT the pdf page number, as in “In the Romany tale ‘The Young Man and His Vampire Brother’ the ‘passers-by were spitting on the corpse’” (83). Be sure to integrate your quotes in some manner and to be aware of punctuation rules about integrating quotes into an essay. Remember, though, that quotes should be kept to a minimum so you can focus on analyzing and connecting ideas. Papers should be uploaded in .doc, .docx, or .pdf formats; no .odt or .pages papers will be accepted for credit. (D2L cannot open .odt or .pages files properly.)
